Certificate

Table Rock Campus

Rogue Community College’s Firefighter Career Pathway Certificate prepares you for a fast-paced, hands-on career in the fire service. This three-term program is designed to help you enter the workforce quickly by building the core skills needed for entry-level firefighter positions in Southern Oregon. You gain practical training, academic instruction and professional preparation in a supportive learning environment.

The certificate includes the Firefighter Essentials 1 Academy, Emergency Medical Technician training and additional fire science coursework aligned with industry expectations. Courses follow national fire service standards and meet regional hiring requirements, helping you become career-ready.

Students will need to complete the competitive entry process and be accepted into the Fire Essentials 1 Academy even if they intend to only complete the Career Pathway Certificate.

A defining feature of this program is RCC’s close partnership with fire departments across Southern Oregon. Many students participate in the Student Firefighter program, which allows you to gain real-world experience while completing your degree. Student firefighters work alongside career firefighters as part of an engine crew, applying classroom learning to actual fire and emergency response situations. This hands-on experience helps you graduate career-ready, with practical skills and professional connections employers value.

If you have previous training or experience, you may be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), which can help you move through the program faster and more efficiently with guidance from an advisor.
