The Sustainable Community Development focus award at Rogue Community College provides you with the knowledge, skills and experiences to play a meaningful role in building stronger, more resilient communities. You’ll look at community development from a big-picture perspective — learning how people collaborate across differences, how social and environmental systems connect, and how sustainable practices can strengthen communities. Along the way, you’ll build communication and civic engagement skills through applied learning that supports positive social change.
This program is designed to give you practical skills that can strengthen your resume and prepare you to make a difference in the Rogue Valley and beyond. Through this focus award, you’ll study community development holistically — building communication skills, understanding social and environmental challenges, and identifying solutions that benefit both people and the environment. You will also complete a service-learning project to gain hands-on experience, connecting your learning directly to the needs of the community.
This focus award is meant to complement your degree or certificate and can be a strong addition to your resume. Depending on the receiving institution, your courses may also transfer to four-year universities as elective or program-related credits, giving you added flexibility as you plan your next steps.
