Nursing is a special admission program — which means you must meet additional requirements and complete a separate admission process beyond general college admission. Taking it step by step will help you stay organized and confident throughout the process.
Nursing admission occurs once a year, with classes beginning fall term. The application window for the Nursing program is open Dec. 1 - Feb. 15 each year. All deadlines and timelines are subject to change, so check this webpage regularly to make sure you have the most up-to-date information.
RCC’s two-phase process for evaluating applications includes the following requirements and steps:
- Apply and be accepted to Rogue Community College.
- Complete all required prerequisite courses and additional admission steps before applying.
- Submit your Nursing program application during the Dec. 1 - Feb. 15 application window.
- Applications are ranked using the Selection Point System as part of Phase I. If selected to move to Phase II, complete the required essay component.

submit your application to the college. After you apply, you’ll meet with an advisor

How to Get Started
Getting started at Rogue Community College is simple. Follow these steps to enroll and begin working toward your goals.
- Apply to Rogue Community College: It’s free and only takes a few minutes online.
- Complete the Placement Process: This shows what math and writing classes you should start with first.
- Attend a New Student Orientation: Provides crucial information on campus resources, academic expectations and student life, helping you feel more prepared and connected.
- Attend a First Term Advising Session: Academic Advisors help you choose classes and plan your schedule.
- Register for Classes: Once your schedule is set, you’re ready start your first term.
Additional Special Admissions Steps
Step 1: Complete the minimum of 28 credits of prerequisite coursework, including BI231 and BI231L and MTH95 (or higher), with a “C-” or better letter grade and a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Students with a higher GPA when applying will be given admission preference based on the Application Selection Point Process. Please note that if you are accepted into the Nursing program, all 45 required credits must be completed before matriculation with a maintained 3.0 GPA.
Step 2: After meeting all requirements, apply for the Nursing program in line with required dates and deadlines for the upcoming academic year.

Application fees are non-refundable and must be paid to the RCC Campus Marketplace (AFTER Dec. 1, but BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION).
Fees are as follows:
- Fall 2026 Application Fee – $100
- Payments can be made starting Dec. 1. Once payment is received, a confirmation email will be sent to both the applicant (via your RCC student email) and the Nursing department.
- Please save the Marketplace confirmation email for proof of payment during the application process If you don't see the email, please check your junk mail. If no confirmation is received, the payment is incomplete.
Please gather and perform all RCC Nursing Program Pre-Application Procedures before advancing to the application.

The top-ranked applicants for the ADN and PN programs will be invited to sit for one of the offered essay sessions.
The essay portion of the application will consist of multiple scenario-based questions for response. The essay is worth a maximum of 30 points to be added to your Phase I score. You will not receive a copy of your essay score.

While applicants should continue working to complete their prerequisite coursework, you should NOT pursue meeting the clinical requirements before being offered a seat in the nursing program. Applicants with an admissions offer will receive specific directions from the Nursing Department on how to fulfill these requirements. This information will be sent to your RCC student email.

Applicants offered a seat in the Nursing associate degree program must complete all outstanding prerequisite courses (45+ credits) by the end of term prior to starting nursing courses. PN students must maintain their 2.5 GPA and ADN students must maintain their 3.0 GPA for the remainder of the prerequisite coursework.
In addition, prior to beginning nursing courses, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Pass a criminal background check from an agency designated by RCC.
- Pass a 10-panel drug screen from a lab designated by RCC.
- Submit proof of current immunizations and current American Heart Association BLS certification for health care providers.
Applicants should NOT pursue meeting the Phase III requirements before being offered a seat in the nursing program. Applicants with an admissions offer will receive specific directions from the Nursing Department on how to fulfill these requirements. This information will be sent to your RCC student email.

Application Selection Point Process
The RCC Nursing Program application process will use the following selection criteria and point system for all Nursing programs unless otherwise noted.
Note: The college reserves the rights to update point values for future academic years.

2 points - Completion of ALL OCNE prerequisite and preparatory credits (45+) before the application deadline.
Prerequisite/preparatory courses completed before the program application deadline will be utilized to calculate the GPA and assignment of points in the selection/admission process. GPA points will be rounded to hundredths and assigned using the following range table:
ADN Program (minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0):
3.67-4.00 = 25 points
3.33-3.66 = 23 points
3.20-3.32 = 20 points
3.15-3.19 = 17 points
2 points – completion of BI231, BI232 and BI233 (A&P with labs) completed prior to the current application deadline.
2 points – official transcript providing proof of an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Rrequires proof of residency.
4 points - Josephine or Jackson County residents.
4 points - Military veteran (with proof of honorable discharge) or active service (e.g., National Guard).
Requires DD214, NGB 22 or proof of current military service, such as an LES.
Up to 15 points - may be awarded for paid, hands-on patient care experience within the past five years, supported by a current, unencumbered state license or national certification.
Eligible roles include CNA or CMA (OSBN registry), LPN, respiratory therapist, EMT, paramedic, nationally certified medical assistant or armed services medic/corpsman.
Points will be awarded based on verified work experience in these roles.
Points for work experience meeting requirements above will be awarded as follows:
- 900-1248 hours = 6 points
- 1249-1872 hours = 9 points
- 1873-3744 hours = 12 points
- ≥3744 hours = 15 points
Applicants with other Oregon or national health care certifications may request a Healthcare Work Experience Form be filled out by their current/previous employer(s), with proof of licensure/certification, required work hours and an explanation of how their role involves hands-on patient care and relates to nursing practice. Experience will be evaluated for relevance, with 0-15 points awarded.
No points will be awarded for work experience without proof of state licensure or national certification with their application, or if the applicant submits licensure/certification and no Work Experience Form (or incomplete form).
Access to the Health Care Work Experience Form will be given during the application process. Please submit your application with ample time for your previous employer to fill it out before the application deadline.
TEAS selection points will be awarded as follows:
- Exemplary (92 – 100) - 16 points
- Advanced (80-91.9) - 11 points
- Proficient (58.7 - 79.9) - 6 points
