The Medical Assisting Administrator AAS degree program includes clinical medical assisting training and a practicum experience as part of the degree. Because of the clinical training component, this is a special admission program, which means you must complete additional requirements and a separate application process beyond general college admission.
You do not need to finish prerequisites before applying. To be considered, you must attend a mandatory virtual Allied Health Information Session and submit an application through the Allied Health department. Priority application deadlines typically fall in early June for fall admission and mid-December for spring admission, with final deadlines later in each term.
As you progress through the program, you will complete coursework in both clinical medical assisting and health care office administration, along with a supervised practicum in a local clinic to build real-world experience.
Graduation Requirements
The Medical Assisting Administrator AAS degree requires the completion of 90-92 program credits in addition to 0-4 prerequisite credits, which may be waived based on placement. Students must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C” or better to earn a certificate. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor or faculty advisor before beginning any coursework.
See the Program Map in our academic catalog for specific course requirements.
Clinical Practicum Experience
A clinical practicum gives you hands-on experience in a real health care setting, where you can apply what you’ve learned in class while working under professional supervision. During your practicum, you’ll build clinical skills, practice professional communication and learn how health care teams work together in day-to-day care. This experience helps you gain confidence, strengthen your skills and understand what employers expect. A clinical practicum is an important step toward entering the health care workforce prepared and ready to succeed.
Credit for Prior Learning
The Medical Assisting Administrator program may be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning, meaning your work experience, training or other learning outside the classroom could count for college credit — helping you save time and reduce costs.
