Rogue Community College offers financial aid to help you pay for tuition, fees and course materials so you can focus on your education and career goals. Once your grant, loan or scholarship funds are awarded, they are applied first to your charges, and any remaining funds are refunded to you.
Refunds are delivered through BM Technologies (previously BankMobile), a subsidiary of First Carolina Bank, giving you flexible options to receive your money quickly and securely. Understanding how disbursements and refunds work can help you plan your finances and make the most of your aid.
How Your Financial Aid Works
Once you’re awarded grants, loans or scholarships, your aid is applied automatically to your tuition, fees and bookstore charges after the Add/Drop Deadline (week 2). You do not need to tell us to apply it.
Tip: Check the “Disbursements” section of your MyFinAid account to see when your aid is scheduled to disburse.
If your aid exceeds your charges, RCC will refund the extra to you starting the second Friday of the term. Refunds are processed weekly throughout the term. Note that it can take 1-3 business days to receive your refund, depending on your Refund Preference (see below). For information about loan disbursement, see the Student Loans page.
Financial aid refunds are delivered through BM Technologies. Learn more on the BM Technologies website.
Vocab Check
- Disbursement — When financial aid funds are sent to the school.
- Refund — Money returned to you if your financial aid exceeds your charges or if you are owed a refund after dropping a class. RCC sends refunds through BM Technologies. It is important to select a refund preference so you can access any funds you are owed.
Setting Up Your Refund Preference
Brand New Students
- After you register for classes, BM Technologies sends a welcome email.
- Follow the instructions in the email to verify your identity then select a refund preference as soon as possible to avoid delays.
- Can’t find the email? Check your spam or junk folder. Visit the Refund Selection website to start the process.
- Even if you’re unsure whether you’ll have excess aid, set up a refund preference.
Note: You must be 17 or older to set up a refund preference.
Returning Students

If Your Aid Isn’t Awarded by the Add/Drop Deadline
- Your funds will disburse once your award is processed by RCC.
- If you’re not awarded enough aid to cover your balance by the first payment deadline, you must pay the remaining balance or set up the installment plan to avoid penalties.
- Federal rules: financial aid cannot be used to pay penalties or late fees. You must use an alternative payment method if you owe these kinds of fees.
