Before you start your Early Childhood Education (ECE) program at RCC, there are a few important steps to help make sure you’re set up for success — in the classroom and in real early learning environments. This section walks you through placement, prerequisites, practicum expectations and required documentation, so you know what to expect as you plan your path forward.
This program has prerequisite course requirements, which may be waived based on placement. Please see the Program Map in our academic catalog for more information. Some programs have extra courses or skill requirements. An advisor can help you understand what is needed.
Many courses in this department require participation in community schools, programs and agencies for observation and practicum experiences. Practicum placement and classroom observations will require proof of measles immunization status, an RCC Student ID and criminal history background check. More information is available from the Early Childhood & Elementary Education Department.
Graduation Requirements
The Early Childhood Education – Intermediate Career Pathway Certificate requires the completion of 32 program credits in addition to prerequisite credits, which may be waived based on placement. Students must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C” or better to earn a certificate. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic & Career Coach or faculty advisor before beginning any coursework.
Courses are designed to be completed over three terms. Not all courses are offered every term.

Credit for Prior Learning
The Early Childhood Education (Pathway Certificate - Intermediate) program may be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning, meaning your work experience, training or other learning outside the classroom could count for college credit — helping you save time and reduce costs.
