Program Overview
Term one you will study mechanical drafting and get familiar with the industry-standard CAD program AutoCAD and SolidWorks. You will also learn about various manufacturing processes, materials and possible career opportunities with CAD in manufacturing-related disciplines.
Term two you will study more advanced CAD operations using Mechanical Autodesk Inventor and
Mechanical SolidWorks. You get an introduction to prototyping and work individually
or as a team to create a product from idea to completion. To prepare for your final
project, you will also learn machine shop basics and metrology.
Term three will get you into advanced CAD in the lab to design prototypes and create them in
a real-world setting.
This program has prerequisite course requirements, which may be waived based on placement.
Graduation Requirements
The Computer-Aided Design & Drafting certificate requires the completion of 38 program
credits and 0-6 prerequisite credits, which may be waived based on placement. Students
must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C-” or better
to earn a certificate. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an academic or
faculty advisor before beginning any coursework.
