Student Success Indicators provide more detailed insight into student experiences and outcomes, particularly for groups that have traditionally been underrepresented, such as students of color and students with low socioeconomic status. The indicators also allow RCC leaders to review data more frequently and respond more quickly to emerging trends.
National and regional benchmark data often lag six months to a year behind real time. Student Success Indicators help complement those data sets by offering more timely and locally relevant information.
First‑Time Fall Cohort
The primary set of Student Success Indicators tracks a first‑time fall cohort, defined as students who enter college for the first time during the fall term.
For consistency and comparability, IR uses definitions aligned with:
- The Voluntary Framework of Accountability (VFA).
- Milestone and Momentum Point key performance indicators used by Achieving the Dream.
This alignment allows for deeper analysis and clearer interpretation of outcomes, helping RCC better understand student progress, equity gaps and opportunities to improve student success.
