Class Designations
Our Class A program includes three comprehensive courses featuring 50 hours of classroom instruction and 44 hours of behind-the-wheel training in the yard and over the road.
Our Class B program includes 10 hours of classroom instruction and 30 hours of behind-the-wheel training in the yard and over the road. Class B& trainings are held at our Table Rock Campus in White City.
When are CDL Training Courses Offered?

CDL Programs
RCC’s Class A Commercial Truck Driver Training Program is offered as a five-week daytime option or a nine-week class that meets evenings and weekends. Sections are offered from the Table Rock Campus in White City and the Redwood Campus in Grants Pass. See the Campus Marketplace for schedule details.
This program includes the following classes:
CTD3111 — Commercial Learner Permit Prep (optional classroom):
Study and review the material needed to obtain your Commercial Learner Permit (CLP).
CTD3112 — Class A Driver Training Theory (classroom):
Learn about hours of service regulations, atlas reading, logbooks, cargo handling/manifests,
driver health, whistle blower protection, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, tractor/trailer
systems, hazmat training and local and national job opportunities.
CTD3113 — Class A Behind the Wheel:
Provides behind-the-wheel training necessary to successfully pass the Oregon DMV Class
A license skills test including coupling/uncoupling, throttle control, braking systems
and testing, backing maneuvers, turns, shifting techniques, space management and hazard
perception over the road and in the yard.
Tuition & Fees
Total estimated cost for this program is $5,590, which includes RCC fees, DMV fees and additional optional costs. All rates are subject to change. CDL training is not eligible for federal student aid. Please contact RCC Community & Workforce Training for a list of programs offering financial assistance.

To be eligible to transport hazardous materials, you will also need to take this step:
- Visit the Transportation Security Administration website to obtain your Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME). This website provides quick and easy processing of your HME application and gives information on where to obtain directions to the nearest fingerprinting station. The fee for this service is $86.50
Class A Registration
To apply and register for the RCC Commercial Truck Driver Class A Training program, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Register and pay the deposit through the RCC Campus Marketplace. [link] Seats fill fast. Waitlists are available if class is full.
Step 2: After you have registered, email to truckFREERogue%20Community%20College:
- A picture of the front and back of your Oregon Driver License./li>
- An Electronic Certified Court Print of your driving record. You can order a copy of your driving record from the DMV online.
After we receive your deposit and documents, we’ll register you and email you next steps, including DOT physical and drug test details.
NOTE: Although cannabis is legal in Oregon, this federally regulated program treats cannabis use as a failed drug test and will disqualify you.
Full tuition is due by the end of the course. Students with unpaid balances cannot take the final exam until all fees are paid. Unpaid balances may incur late fees and be sent to collections.

This program includes the following classes:
CTD3107 – Class B Driver Training Theory (classroom):
Learn basic commercial vehicle operations, safe operating procedures, advanced operating
practices, logbooks, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, vehicle systems and reporting
malfunctions and non-driving activities.
CTD3108 – Class B Behind the Wheel:
The training provides students with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to
successfully pass the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Commercial Motor Vehicle
(CMV) Class B license skills test (pre-trip inspection, brakes leak test, straight
and 90-degree backing and road test). The course covers driving exercises related
to basic vehicle control skills and mastery of basic maneuvers.

RCC tuition includes DOT drug screen and DMV Driving Skills Tester: $2,025

Class B Registration
To apply and register for the RCC Commercial Truck Driver Class B Training program, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Register and pay the deposit through the RCC Campus Marketplace. [link] Seats fill fast. Waitlists are available if class is full.
Step 2: After you have registered, email to truckFREERogue%20Community%20College:
- A picture of the front and back of your Oregon Driver License.
- A picture of the front and back of your Oregon Class B Learner Permit with Air Brakes.
You will then be registered into the two program classes (classroom and behind the wheel) and the full tuition will be added to your account.
Tuition must be paid in full prior to testing at the end of the program.
Prerequisites & Requirements
For Class A and Class B training programs, you must:- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a valid Oregon Driver License.
- Have at least one year of driving experience.
For students 18-20 years old, commercial driving within state lines is allowed (intrastate). You must be at least 21 years old to drive commercial across state lines (interstate).
Potential students will be required to submit:
- Copy of a valid Oregon Driver License.
- Class A students: An Electronic Certified Court Print of their driving record.
- Class B students will be required to obtain their Oregon Class B Commercial Learner Permit with Air Brakes and pass a DOT drug screen prior to the start of class.&
The standards below reflect current insurance requirements to be competitively employed in the trucking industry. Not meeting these standards will not prevent a student from entering the RCC Commercial Truck Driver Training, but students should be aware of potential employability issues:
- No more than three moving violation citations in the past three years.
- No major “at fault” accidents in the past five years, and no more than one “at fault” accident in the past 12 months or more than two in the past five years.
- No DUI, reckless or negligent violations within the past three years.
- No excessive speed violations in the past three years, 15 miles or more over posted limit.
- No “Failure to Appears” on Motor Vehicle Record.
- No felonies within the past seven years.
Career & Salary Outlook
You can expect commercial truck driving jobs in Oregon and across the nation to grow more than most other occupations through 2034, according to the State of Oregon Employment Department.
Job Placement: You will need to apply for professional truck-driving positions. RCC will provide all necessary documentation to inquiring trucking companies to assist in placement of graduates.
